About Rochdale BID
Rochdale BID is a business led and business funded partnership working for and representing over 200 town centre businesses.
Rochdale Business Improvement District (BID) started in April 2019 after a successful second ballot in2023 it will continue until at least 2029. The result of the second ballot confirmed the BID won a strong mandate from the town centre with 82% of voters voting yes. We are a not for profit company limited by guarantee, managed by a Board of Directors made up of representatives of the local business community
The BID is funded by the businesses through a mandatory levy, based on the rateable value and is payable in addition to the business rates bill. All businesses in the area (businesses include retailers, public sector organisations and those which form part of the hospitality sector) have to pay the levy for the period the BID is in existence. This levy is used to develop projects which will benefit businesses in the local area. BIDs directly involve local businesses in local activities and allow the business community and local authority to work together with other local stakeholders to deliver innovative projects to support and enhance the town centre.
As with all town centres, there will be both challenges and opportunities some of which, as the BID, we are able to control and influence. What is clear to the BID is the importance of multi-functional high streets; shared visions and partnership working; collaborating with the local community to better understand and meet their needs; designing for health and wellbeing; creating ‘meanwhile’ uses – all these factors need to be explored and projects associated with them implemented as they will help to revitalise and future-proof high streets like those found in Rochdale Town Centre.
Governance
Rochdale BID is accountable to its levy payers and is governed by a voluntary board of Directors from a representative range of sectors in the BID area.
The Board meet at least quarterly to help ensure the priorities of businesses are being met and to monitor performance and delivery.
BID Members receive regular updates on our work and progress against our business plan priorities. We engage our Members on a wide range of town centre issues and invite them to get involved where possible. Feedback is welcomed at any time by getting in contact with the Team.
Rochdale BID is a not for profit company limited by guarantee and works closely with industry partners including The BID Foundation, Institute of Place Management and ATCM.
