We are committed to ensure that Rochdale town centre remains a safe and enjoyable destination and a great place to work, visit and invest in. By introducing additional security measures and working closely with key partners, we aim to reduce crime & anti-social behaviour and provide our business community with the very best levels of support & advice.
What we have delivered:
Pubwatch & Shopwatch schemes. The BID continues to operate the Pubwatch and Shopwatch schemes which bring together licensees, police, shop owner/managers and other agencies. By working alongside licensees, businesses, GMP and other agencies the schemes help to manage a safer drinking and shopping environment by excluding individuals who commit anti-social behaviour or theft.
BID Rangers: The BID employs x2 Rangers. The Rangers are able to be the eyes and ears of the BID and report various safety issues, so that collectively we can ensure that Rochdale is the best it can be for businesses, staff and all users of the Town Centre. The Rangers are able record what they see in the town centre so that we can produce data about what is happening and work to resolve issues.
Town Centre Radio scheme. Over 50 businesses throughout the town centre are now part of our business against crime network with assigned radios allowing contact between premises and sharing of crime reporting and alerts. This scheme has been proven to deter petty crime and anti-social behaviour and has proved a valuable tool to security teams both in the daytime and night-time economy.
Street Pastors. The BID continues to support The Street Pastors who work every Friday and Saturday evening to ensure visitors have a safe and enjoyable evening. The Street Pasters were recently awarded the BIDs Unsung Hero Award in recognition of their amazing work in supporting the night time economy.
Anti-social behaviour. The BID has made available to businesses an easy to use guide about the various ways they can report crime and anti social behaviour. It is important the businesses keep on reporting all incidents. In addition, the BID recently made available a guide to ensure that businesses support their employees by proving them with practical advice on how they can travel to and from work safely.
Town Watch. The BID continues to run the weekly Town Watch meeting which is attended by GMP, RBC and representatives from both shopping centres. The purpose of the meeting is to assist the flow of safety information between partners.
CCTV. The Town Centre CCTV cameras are all monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to maximise public safety throughout the town centre.
A SAFER TOWN
We are committed to ensure that Rochdale town centre remains a safe and enjoyable destination and a great place to work, visit and invest in. By introducing additional security measures and working closely with key partners, we aim to reduce crime & anti-social behaviour and provide our business community with the very best levels of support & advice.
The BID supports our business community by working in close partnership with the GMP and Rochdale Council to deliver crime reducing benefits via the following initiatives:
A PubWatch group focused on crime reduction and promoting a safe night time economy.
A ShopWatch scheme specifically tailored to the needs of our individual businesses.
CCTV – The Town Centre CCTV cameras are all monitored 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to maximise public safety throughout the town centre.
Radio links.
Body cameras have also been issued to premises and have proved successful as both a deterrent and for use in evidence against offenders. The cameras provide added reassurance for door staff as well as complementing the premises own CCTV systems and the wider town centre network.
Street Pastors. Street Pastors are trained volunteers from local churches who care about their community and offer support, a friendly presence and practical help to people they encounter in the night time on the weekend. Bottles of water, space blankets and flip flops are regularly handed out to those who need them and the Pastors also collect bottles and glasses they find discarded as they patrol the city’s streets. When you see how the Street Pastors are welcomed wherever they go in the cenmtre, whatever the circumstances, you realise what a great job they do and how lucky we are to have them!
